brOva bhArama - bahudAri - Adi

In this Keertana Tyagaraja says that Rama saved innumerable devatas and men. Then he asks how he became a burden to Him.

P brOva bhArama raghurAmA
bhuvana mella neevai nanno kani ||
Oh Raghu Rama, you protect the whole universe. Am I a burden to you?
AP Sree vAsu dEva anDakOTla kukshini nunchukO lEdA nannu|| Oh Vasudeva, did you not keep all creation in your stomach?
C kala SAmbudhilO dayatO nama
rulakai yadigAka gOpi
kalakai konDa letta lEdA
karuNAkara tyAgarAjuni ||
(As Koorma, the turtle) You pitied the devatas and rescued them.
(As Krishna) You lifted the Govardana mountain to protect the gopikas (cowherds).
Oh kind hearted Rama, Is it a burden to you to protect Tyagaraja?

bhavanuta - mOhana - Adi

In this Keertana, Tyagaraja affectionately requests Rama to relax in his heart. He feels that Rama is tired.

P bhavanuta nA hrudayamuna ramimpumu baDalika deera
bhava tAraka nAtO bahu balkina baDalika deera kamala sam ||
Oh Rama worshipped by Siva, please relax in my heart, you are tired of conversing with me. You enable us cross the ocean of worldliness.
C1 pavana suta priya tanakai tirigina baDalika deera
bhavanamu chEri nannu verapinchina baDalika deera kamala sam ||
You are dear to Anjaneya, you are tired of moving about in my house. Sometimes you scare me, perhaps to make me righteous.
C2 varamagu naivEdyamulanu sEyani baDalika deera
paravalEka sari pOyi naTTADina baDalika deera kamala sam ||
You are tired of accepting my improper offerings and my harsh utterances. Please relax.
C3 prabala jEsi nanu brOchE vanu konna baDalika deera
prabhu neevu tyAgarAjuniki baDalika deera kamala sam ||
You did a lot to protect me. So you are tired. Oh Lord of Tyagaraja, relax.

bantureeti - hamsanAdam - Adi

In this Keertana, Tyagaraja requests Rama to give him the job of a servant which will eradicate his ego. He adds that it will make him a humble devotee of Rama.

P banTu reeti kolu veeya vayya rAma || Give me the job of a servant to you, Oh Rama.
AP tunTa vinTi vAni modalaina madA
dula baTTi nEla goola jEyu nija ||
That will destroy all my evils and ego.
C rOmAncha manE vara kanchukamu
rAma bhaktuDanE mudra biLLayu rAma nAma manE vara khadga michchi rAjillu naTlu tyAgarAjuniki ||
Hair-raising thrill in Rama's service is his shield.
The identification badge as Rama's devotee and Rama's name as his sword, make Tyagaraja successful.

bhajana sEyarAda - aTANa- roopakam

In this kruti Tyagaraja implores us to chant songs in praise of Rama which enables us to cross the ocean of worldly problems. He says that Rama bhajana is the greatest Mantram (incantation).

P bhajana sEya rAda || Why don't you chant the praise of Rama?
AP aja rudrAdulaku satamAtma mantra maina rAma || It is the mantra close to the heart of even Brahma and Siva.
C karuku bangAru valva kaTi nentO merayaga || Golden cloth around Rama's waist is shining.
C chirunavvulu gala mogamunu chintinchi chintinchi
arunAbhA dharamunu suruchira dantAvaLIni
merayu kapOla yugamunu niratamu nanu dalachi dalachi ||
I think of his smiling face again and again.
His lips are red like rising Sun. He has perfect teeth in ruby red mouth,
I think of his glossy cheeks again and again
C bAguga mAnasa bhavasAgaramunanu tarimpa
tyAgarAju manavini vini tArakamagu rAma nAma ||
Rama Bhajana will enable you to cross the ocean of worldly problems.

In this kruti Tyagaraja praises Rama's magnanimity,valour and respect for sages.He prays to Rama to protect him from the worldly problems.

sakala lOka nAyaka brOchEvArevarE
naravara nee sari brOchEvArevarE||
Oh SriRama the lord of Raghu dynasty, who else will protect me? Oh lord of all lokas,Oh exalted one,there is none equal to you.
AP dEvEndrAdulu mechchuTaku lanka
daya tO dAna mosangi sadA ||
Did you not bequeath the kingdom of Lanka to Vibheeshana and were not Devendra and other celestial beings delighted by that gesture?
C muni savambu jooDa venTa jani khala mAreechAdula hatambu jEsi || You went along with the sage Viswamitra to protect his Yaga and you killed the wicked demons Maricha and others.
C vAli nokka koola nEsi ravi bAluni rAjuga gAvinchi joochi
bhavAbdhi taruNOpayamu nErani tyAgarAju karambiDi ||
You struck the most invincible Vali with your arrow and crowned Sugriva.
Please hold the hand of innocent Tyagaraja to enable him cross this ocean of worldly problems.

balamu kulamu- sAvEri - roopakam

In this song Tyagaraja preaches what is real devotion and what is false. He euologises his message with many simple examples containing great moral.

P balamu kulamu yEla rAma bhakti kAraNamu || What use is this physical strength? (devoid of enlightened mind)
What use is your great lineage? (devoid of noble qualities)
Devotion to Rama only generates spiritual experiences and enlightenment
AP velayu sakala siddhu lella venTa vachchu gAni mEnu || That piety (punyam) only accompanies us even after our death.
C neeTa kAki meenu munuga niratamu daya snAnamA
tETa kanulu konga goorcha dEva dhyAna mA
patramulanu mEyu mEka balamaina upAsamA
chitrapakshulegaya soorya chandrulaku sAmyamA
guhala vEsha kOTu luntE guNamu kalgu mounulA
gahanamunanu kOtulunTE ghanamou vana vAsamA ||
If a crow or fish dips in water,can it be called a holy bath
If a crane stands closing its eyes,is it divine meditation.
If a goat eats leaves , can it be considered as upavasam.(religious fasting)
If the glow worms fly in the sky,are they comparable to the sun and the moon?
If some impostors hide in caves,are they equal to hermits? (who live in caves)
If monkeys live in a forest,is it any renunciation?
C jangamamulu paluka kunTe sangatigA mounulA
anagamu muyyani bAluru epuDu digambarulA
valachu tyAgarAja varadu vara bhaktulu sEyu bhakti
chelagu sakala janula kella chellina kAsounugA ||
If moving(living) creatures keep silence (although they appear to be meditating), are they equal to sages?
If children move naked, can they be considered as religious Digambaras? (ascetics who renounce even attire)
Tyagaraja admires the devotional fervour of true devotees.
They are precious like valuable currency.
